Most people don't get the big deal about 'Revolver'.
They give it a listen and say, 'Yeah? So what? It sounds like nothing special, like a babillion other albums I've listened to'.
So I say , It came out in 1965. And some people still don't get it. So I have to point out to them- bands have been trying to remake 'Revolver' for over 40 years. This was the album that opened all the doors, broke down all the barriers.
This is the album that started all that.
And it's got another distinction- the first rock album ever that totally reeks of pot. If you sniff the CD you can still get a whiff 40 years on. I'm not a pot smoker and never have been, but there is no denying its influence on modern music. This is the first example.
This and its followup 'Rubber Soul' were the albums that begat all the basic set standard ideas for modern pop music for the next 40 years.
And some people STILL don't get it. Oh well. Their loss!
