Big Monkeys in Big Movies, and other fun things
King Kong is out on DVD. I can wait for my pre-ordered copy from Amazon to show up today or tomorrow, but man I wish I'd asked for faster shipping.
I really liked that movie. The first hour was a bit slow and I didn't see a need to expand the First Mate and Jimmy's relationship to the extent they did, but overall, it was an interesting first hour that sort of felt like an hour. The next two hours felt like half that.  I saw this movie twice in theaters, the first time I'd done that for any film since Return of the Jedi back in 1983!

Speaking of Amazon, they still haven't shipped me Gus' Whale-killing Journal. I've read it before but I'm somewhat of a completist with books and I think this author's a fun read and someday I'll be able to say that I have first edittions of all of his works. Wish I could commission a nice scrimshaw for the library wall. Just have o idea what to ask for- maybe a nice three-master in full sail, or an antique map of the world. Heck, he's too busy to draw pictures for me anyway.

I think I want a change of scenery. All this talk of rain and weather has got me thinking I've been in Dallas too long, because though it's been raining a lot lately, it's normally very dry and hot, and I'm not so much into that. I like wet and cool.

SO what parts of the world are wet and cool? Seattle? Ha- it's been hot and dry there for the past year or two. Vancouver? Maybe. Not sure if they'd let me live there though, I'd have to check on US resident status there. Nice place to make guitars though, lots of guitar makers up in that neck of the woods.
Northern California? Maybe, north of the Bay, like Healdsburg or even futher, Humboldt Country. Beautiful up there but I recall it being dry there too.
Maybe I could get a room at ToplessBLogger's hotel somehwere in Montana?
THere's Colorado, somewhere tucked into the side of a mountain. Been there, done that, loved it, but the commute was a killer.

SO! GIve me some suggestions! Where would you live if you could live anywhere?
